Overwhelmed ?
I have found myself more than I want to, on the boat of overwhelm. It drifts into the strong waves of the endless tasks. As a wife and mother of two it seems there is always something to do, chores to get to , bills to pay , appointments to make , and agendas to fill for the week.
The dictionary defines the word “overwhelmed” as loaded, filled or addressed an excessive amount of anything . That sounds about right, in an age where we are constantly consuming information our minds are quite literally filled and loaded. We were not meant to carry all of this.
At the end of a busy week after putting the kids to bed. I sat down rested my head on the pillow and thought about how there’s only one source of true rest not just the physical but the spiritual and emotional rest that we all need.
In Matthew 11(MSG) , Jesus is speaking to the people . He tells them are you Tired? Worn Out? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. Ill show you how to take a real rest.
You see , Jesus knew exactly what they needed, the people needed to learn and receive his true and divine rest . He knows we are constantly striving and trying to achieve from our own strength.
Jesus sees us and understands our weary hearts and he is still calling us the same way he did when he was among the people . He wants us to draw near to him and cast our weariness on him.
Today I challenge you to find some quiet time , even if its 5 minutes and ask God to give you rest, but not just physical rest but spiritual too. We can’t give our best from a tired ,overwhelmed state.
Lord, today I cast all my concerns to you. Help me to seek you first and not the to do list. May I find true rest in you this week. In Jesus Name.
